PSP 3000

After the release of the sleek and sophisticated PSP 2000, it was difficult to imagine how Sony could possibly improvement upon it further in a next generation model. Well, let the PSP 3000 lay your skepticism to rest.

What's Different About It?

Design-wise, the PSP 3000 could easily be mistaken for the PSP 2000 at first glance. Here are the most significant changes in this upgraded PSP model:

  • Anti-reflective Screen - The problem of limited screen visibility in heavily lit areas (especially the outdoors during daylight) is further addressed with new anti-reflective technology. Contrast ratio and color gamut are also improved in the PSP 3000, making its display by far the most superior yet in Sony's line of portable gadgets.
  • Built-in Microphone - Eliminating the need for a mic-enabled headset, the built in microphone in the PSP 3000 adds an additional dynamic when playing some games and can also be used in conjunction with the device's built-in Skype functionality.
  • 480i Output - The PSP 2000 brought you A/V connectivity so you could connect your device to a television set at a playback rate of 480p. The PSP 3000 takes it a step further by adding 480i output when it is connected to a TV via composite or S-Video cable.

Battery Info

Like the PSP 2000 Slim & Lite, the PSP 3000 also uses a slim 3.6v 1200mAh battery but can accommodate the bulkier 1800mAh battery (standard with the PSP 1000), although it will prevent the battery door from properly closing. The extended life 2200mAh battery can also be used to improve total game play time, but the same battery door problem will be experienced as it is somewhat larger than the slim 1200mAh battery. If you intend to use a 1800mAh or 2200mAh battery with your PSP 3000, it is recommended that you pick up an extended battery cover to properly secure your battery pack.
