.First released in December of 2004 in Japan, the original Sony PSP (PlayStation Portable) took North America by storm in March of 2005.
As the most powerful hand-held gaming console at the time, the original Sony PSP 1000 (also known as the PSP Fat) quickly became a favorite and a must have for both casual and serious gamers everywhere. With a considerably larger and higher resolution area compared to other hand-held gaming devices, the PSP is in a class all its own.
Media is loaded onto the PSP via Sony's UMD (Universal Media Disc). Not only is the PSP a convenient way to game on the go, it is also suited for viewing DVDs in exceptional portable quality. The PSP 1000 also features a memory stick slot to accomodate a Memory Stick Duo or a Pro Duo which allows the PSP to playback audio and video that has been saved.
